Better Spanish foundation to enable faster and more successful transition to English literacy

Lengua, ritmo y cultura (LRC) strengthens Spanish foundations through vocabulary enrichment, listening, repeating, modeling oral language and developing reading skills. Learning experts agree that these building blocks must be in place in order for Spanish speakers to become more capable of transitioning successfully to English literacy.

•Differentiated Literacy Instruction and Intervention

•Student Progress Tracking and Results Report

•Embedded TEKS Mapping Tool and Word Search

LRC was developed from Lector by EDUSPARK, a successful language development and reading program implemented in Mexico since 2001 with more than 200,000 students. Backed on Brain-research, LRC easily aligns with the “Science of Reading” or “La Ciencia de la Lectura” keeping the essence of the authentic instructional design for Spanish intuitive spelling, for example.

Lengua ritmo y cultura incluyen juegos y canciones, lecturas con audio para simular la lectura en voz alta, promueve las conversaciones entre pares y grupos pequeños, utilizando un amplio vocabulario y escuchando lecturas de sus docentes y padres. Los libros ofrecen lectura con personajes de culturas distintas y de contenidos de ciencias o estudios sociales, para aumentar el vocabulario académico y facilitar la comprensión de sus conceptos.

Brain-research Methodology

"The brain needs repetition to remember. Information is remembered when it is elaborated, meaningful, and contextual. Stimulating more of the senses at once is better for learning. Vision is by far our most dominant sense."

Brain Rules/John Medina

“Science of Reading” or “ La Ciencia de la Lectura” is a collection of research that shows evidence-based reading instruction practices that address the acquisition of language, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, fluency, vocabulary, oral language, and comprehension. Scarborough´s Reading Rope Model (2001) explains how different strands are woven into skilled reading.

Our Brain-based methodology meets with “Science of Reading Approach” focusing on listening and oral language skills to develop phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, and sight-meaningful vocabulary recognition. Above these strong foundations, the brain is more effective to build higher thinking circuits to enrich vocabulary, and develop language conventions, reading and writing skills.

60% of the Lengua, ritmo y cultura by EDUSPARK curriculum focuses on word automatic recognition of familiar words presented through rhyming texts or songs, poems, stories, fables, informational texts, or drama; after word recognition, LRC offers phonological awareness activities with syllables, phonemes, etc.; and decoding letters and spelling-sound correspondence games and tests. These activities help increase reading fluency.

40% of LRC digital content focuses on language comprehension through enriched vocabulary, language conventions, literacy knowledge including print concepts, genres, structure, author purpose, etc.; and verbal reasoning that foster language comprehension demonstrated by STAAR formatted assessments.
